Description: In many ways, mental illness can manifest the same symptoms of dementia, and vice versa. While there are a lot of similarities between the two, there are also some critical differences. Despite the reach and prevalence of mental illness, though, stigma and misunderstanding are still widespread. Couple that misunderstanding with the fact that mental illness can imitate the symptoms of dementia, and vice versa, it has the potential to lead to misdiagnosis.1 CEU for Social Workers, Case Managers, Certified Assisted Living Administrators and Licensed Nursing Home Administrators.

Description: Parkinson disease (PD) is a chronic, slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting approximately 1% of adults older than 60 years of age. As a chronic illness, patients with PD benefit from regular follow-up with their primary care provider working in concert with neurology consultant and an interprofessional care team. Important aspects of care include needing to adjust dosage or alter drug treatment, attention to medication side effects/toxicity, management of comorbid conditions, and risk of polypharmacy. This course will review a basic clinical understanding of the disease, signs and symptoms, and treatments. 1 CEU for Social Workers, Case Managers, Certified Assisted Living Administrators and Licensed Nursing Home Administrators.
