June is a big month for celebrating. We congratulate our graduates, honor our flag, mark the first day of summer, and – perhaps best of all – we honor our fathers. There are so many great ways to mark the occasion – perhaps the most traditional of all is a backyard barbeque. If you’re looking for something that’s a little bit different – and more focused on your dad’s specific interests, hobbies, or needs — here are some terrific ideas for ways to let him know how much you honor, respect, and love him.
A Day at the Spa
Spas don’t just serve women. If you have a hard-working dad who needs a little pampering, book a massage therapist to work out the kinks and stress that comes with shouldering so much of the family responsibility.
A Day at the Beach
If you have access to a body of water, whether an inland lake or a beautiful beach, take your Dad for a daytrip to relive all the times that he took you when you were a kid. You can walk along the coast, soak in the sun, fly a kite, build a sand castle!
Get Tickets to a Concert
Whatever your dad’s musical taste, there’s a good chance that there’s a concert nearby that matches it. Treat him to tickets and go with him – even if his favorite isn’t yours, you can enjoy the fact that he’s enjoying it, and make the most of your time together.
Visit an Art Museum, Natural History Museum, or Science Museum
There are so many fascinating and educational collections to be found in museums, and dads rarely get the time to go and take them in. Based on where you live and what your dad’s interests are, choose something that he’ll find interesting and spend a few hours strolling the corridors and examining the exhibits.
Now We’re Cooking
Lots of dads love to cook – and their interest often extends far beyond the grill. Look for a cooking class that you can take together. With your new knowledge you can plan and prepare dinner for the family.
Do Some Good
Lots of families choose Father’s Day as a time to work together to do good for others. Do a little investigating to see what volunteer opportunities are available in your community that would be meaningful for your father, then sign up and work together to make a difference.
